Ingrid Donat: "Art is in my DNA!"

The esteemed French sculptor and furniture designer whose crafts are greatly influenced by those incredible artists, including Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, and Diego Giacometti, yet remain the expressive distinct in her designs through the sophistication of Art Deco and Art Nouveau.

Donat is a French-Swedish artist born in 1957. Her artistic career flourished in Paris. First as a sculpture student at the École des Beaux Arts, and later through a meeting with Sylva Bernt, who instructed her in the arts of construction, casting, engraving, painting, and sculpture.

“My approach is about imbuing bronze with warmth and vitality by borrowing scarification techniques and visual motifs from tribal societies.”

Donat is greatly influenced by Diego Giacometti, who advised Donat about her sculptural furniture pieces, as well as by the works of Egon Schiele and Germaine Richier.

Her vibrant colors and materials are reminiscent of primitive and tribal arts, while the elegant beauty of her pieces is derived from Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles.
